
SATV, Kathmandu, Aug. 17 - A new documentary capturing the challenges of climbing Mount Everest, the courage of mountaineers and the growing impact of climate change in the Himalayas has released its official trailer.
Named Road to Everest, the 50-minute documentary follows the real-life journey of Raj Gurung, a man in his fifties who attempts to climb the world’s highest mountain. The film explores his struggles, determination and dream of reaching the summit.
According to its production team, the film uses real footage without artificial or computer-generated visuals.
They said it took more than two years to research, film and produce.
Journalists Santosh Acharya and Nirmal Shrestha wrote the story, while media person Bhusan Dahal gives the voice. The documentary has been produced in both Nepali and English.
Directed by Shrestha, the film also highlights the contribution of the Sherpa community, the risks of high-altitude mountaineering and the effects of climate change on the Himalayan region. Renowned mountaineers Phurba Tenjing Sherpa and Nima Gyalzen Sherpa appear in the documentary.
Phurba has climbed Everest 18 times, while Nima has summited Everest 10 times and climbed all 14 of the world’s over 8,000-metre peaks.
Road to Everest will premiere in Kathmandu on August 22 and have its international premiere in Hong Kong on September 13.
It will later be screened at various locations in Nepal and at international film festivals and cinemas.
