SATV, Kathmandu, July. 29 - The Manaslu trekking trail from Gho to Chhekampar in Chum Nubri Rural Municipality of northern Gorkha has been repaired and upgraded.

The trail was repaired after domestic and foreign tourists faced difficulties reaching their destinations. Manoj Lamichhane, chief administrative officer of Chum Nubri Rural Municipality, said the upgrades were aimed at making travel safer and easier.

According to him, concrete paving and railings have been installed at difficult sections of the trail between Gho and Chhekampar in Ward No. 6. The work has been completed, allowing trekkers to travel safely and comfortably from Tuesday.

The Manaslu Conservation Area Project Office in Gorkha said the trail was repaired through the Chhekampar Manaslu Conservation Area Management Committee. Wire mesh has also been installed at risky and difficult sections to make the trail safer.

“From July 20 to 26, the movement of mules along the trail was completely halted to allow the repair work. Now that the trail upgrade has been completed, it has reopened for local residents, businesses and tourists,” Lamichhane said.

Chum Nubri Rural Municipality remains largely disconnected from the road network because of its difficult geography. Mules remain the main means of transporting daily essentials, food, medicines and construction materials to the area.

Nima Lama, chairperson of the rural municipality, said the local government remained committed to developing safe, accessible and quality trekking trails in the long term. The municipality has urged domestic and foreign tourists travelling from Gho to Chhekampar to trek without concern following the completion of the repairs.

Bhuwan Ojha, information officer at the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), Gorkha, said the Chowrikharka section of the Chum Valley trekking route in northern Gorkha has also been fully upgraded and concreted, making travel safer and easier for domestic and foreign tourists.
