SATV, Kathmandu, July. 27 - An initiative has been launched to promote Devghatdham in Tanahun as an international centre for the discussion and research of scriptures alongside spirituality.

During the two-day 'Ramananda Pragya Shastra Sabha', organised by Mahesh Sanyas Ashram and Gurukul with the principal motto "If you want knowledge, come to Devghat," senior scholars from Nepal and India underscored the necessity of establishing a modern research framework based on the ancient Gurukul tradition.

Founded by Dr. Swami Ramananda Giri in 1993 (2050 BS), this Ashram has been at the forefront of pioneering the modern Gurukul system by offering free education from primary to postgraduate levels within a single institution.

The organisers noted that the influx of scholars conducting high-level research at Devghat—traditionally a site where Indian students came solely for education—has affirmed its academic stature.

Prof. Rajaram Shukla, former Chancellor of Sampurnananda Sanskrit University and a participant in the Shastra Sabha, highlighted the significance of Devghat, stating, “Devghat is not merely a pilgrimage site; it is a living laboratory of Vedic philosophy and an ancient knowledge tradition.”

Over forty-five eminent scholars from various departments of Nepal Sanskrit University and India engaged in six sessions of the conference, which featured twenty-five research papers.

The Ashram announced that additional religious and academic programmes will be held at Shankaracharya Math as part of a week-long festival from July 25 to July 31. This celebration commemorates the ninth death anniversary of the ashram's founder, Dr. Swami Ramananda Giri, and coincides with Guru Purnima.
