SATV, Kathmandu, Oct.11-  Flooding in the Budhi Gandaki River has swept away two suspension bridges and a motorable iron bridge in Gorkha district, damaging homes and temporary shelters and putting dozens of houses at risk.

The flooding was triggered after a landslide blocked the river between Lokpa and Chumling in Ward 6 of Chumnubri Rural Municipality.

The flood washed away an old suspension bridge connecting Nyakchet in Ward 3 of Chumnubri with Sirdibas.

It also destroyed a house belonging to Ram Bahadur Gurung of Sirdibas, while floodwater entered another house.

In Dharche Rural Municipality, a suspension bridge connecting Machhikhola in Ward 5 with Kerauja was also swept away.

Floodwater inundated five to seven houses and five to seven temporary shelters in the lower settlement of Machhikhola.

Meanwhile, between 20 and 22 houses in Sallery, Ward 3 of Dharche Rural Municipality, are at risk from the flooding.

The flood also destroyed the iron motorable bridge at Soti, which connects Wards 2 and 3 of Aarughat Rural Municipality, disrupting movement in the area.

Authorities are still collecting details of the damage. No information on casualties has been released so far.

Residents living along the riverbanks have been urged to remain alert amid the continuing river flow and the risk of further flooding.
