KATHMANDU, May 3: The price of animal feed will decrease from mid-May.
Rabin Puri, President of Nepal Grain Industries Association, said that preparations are being made to reduce the price of grain, which has become expensive due to the lack of raw materials.
He mentioned that the prices of all types of food grains will decrease in the next 10 days. He said that a circular has been issued to all grain industries entrepreneurs for this.
Currently in the market, new maize is Rs 35 to Rs 36 per kg and soybean Pinna is Rs 95 per kg. Farmers have also been demanding a reduction in the price of grain as maize and pinna used to make grain have become cheaper.
President Puri claimed that although it will take some time to adjust the new price, it will be adjusted by mid-May.
“The price of animal feed is not determined by the association. Entrepreneurs themselves will reduce the price. When the new corn comes to the market, the price decreases only by looking at the purchase price and the cost,” he said.
According to the Valley Pellet Feeds industry, the price of feed will decrease after the new corn enters the market from mid-May.
"Currently, old corn is being sold for more than Rs 40 per kg in the market. At this time, new corn is coming in the market, but since the corn is raw, the price cannot be reduced immediately. In a few days, the price will be determined by looking at the cost of corn and soybeans,” Industry manager Surendra Raj Pradhan said
Maize and soybean husks are exported from India and third countries for grain production, In which 85 percent of corn is imported, while 100 percent of soybeans are imported.
Entrepreneurs say that domestically produced corn can only produce grains for about 2 to 3 months. At present, soybean pods and corn are being imported easily.
Before the Ukraine-Russia war, soybeans were priced at Rs 75 per kg. Last year, the price of maize reached Rs 45 per kg and soybean pina reached Rs 100 per kg. The price of grain also increased and was up to Rs 4,500 for a 50 kg bag.
At present, the industrial price of grain ranges from Rs 45 to Rs 80 per kg. According to the size of the bag, the factory price ranges between Rs 2,700 to Rs 3,900. According to the association, currently consumers are paying up to Rs 4,200 for a 50 kg bag of different types of feed.
