SATV, Kathmandu, April. 13 - The Fewa New Year Festival began on Sunday at Lakeside in Pokhara. The 21st edition of the festival has started to welcome the New Year 2083.

Chief District Officer of Kaski, Rudradevi Sharma, inaugurated the festival. Sharma said that the festival’s continuous and permanent operation is its main success.“Pokhara is an important city from historical, cultural, and tourism perspectives,” she said. “Among the various festivals held in this city, the Nepali New Year festival has its own distinct importance and identity.”

Before the festival, a rally featuring cultural tableaux and traditional musical processions was held. Chief District Officer Sharma expressed that such artistic tableaux reflect the originality, diversity, and unity of Nepalis.

The festival, which began on Sunday, will continue until Tuesday on the road between Sahid Chowk and Khahare. President of the Hotel Association, Pokhara, Laxman Subedi, mentioned that the festival will conclude with the grand celebration of the Nepali New Year. 

Cultural dances from all seven provinces are being presented at the festival. Hotels here have offered discounts of up to 25 per cent on their rates during the street festival, which links tourism, culture, and food.

In the evenings, the festival will feature cultural performances and the vibrancy of panche baja, while a pop concert will also be held.
