SATV Kathmandu Oct 05: Floods and landslides triggered by three days of continuous rainfall have blocked major highways and key roads connecting Kathmandu Valley.
According to Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, all entry points into the Capital remained closed as of Sunday morning.
Landslides at Bhaktapur’s Sanga along Araniko Highway, at Takuche and Tika Bhairav along the Kanti Highway in Bagmati Rural Municipality of Lalitpur have halted traffic. A massive landslide has also blocked the road at Dharke in Sitapaila, while the route from Kapan’s Aakase Dhara to Baluwakhani is closed. In Makwanpur, floods have damaged the Dodhare bridge in Indra Sarowar Rural Municipality along the Pharping–Sisneri section.
The BP Highway and Araniko Highway, which link Kathmandu with eastern Nepal and the Chinese border, are also shut. Landslides at Mamti Khola and Buldhunga in Roshi Rural Municipality-11 of Kavrepalanchok have blocked the BP Highway, while road collapse at Pipley and Chauki Danda have worsened the situation. On the Araniko Highway, road collapse at Charkilo of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 in Sindhupalchok and landslides at Khawa and 54 Kilo in Dhulikhel have blocked traffic.
The Hetauda–Bhainse–Naubise road has also been affected by multiple landslides. In Chitwan, a landslide near Tuinkhola bridge in Ichhakamana Rural Municipality-5 has blocked the Narayanghat–Muglin road section, while another slide in Dhading’s Benighat has closed the highway.
