The position of Chief Justice has remained vacant for the past 15 months following the impeachment motion row against the then chief justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.
The Constitutional Council nominates a candidate for the position of chief justice, and this candidate must receive the endorsement of the Parliamentary Hearings Committee before being appointed by the President. However, the House of Representatives has not yet formed all the necessary panels, including the hearings committee.
