
SATV, Kathmandu, Sept. 16: Veteran singer and composer Meera Rana is set to perform at a solo musical evening next Sunday, which she says will be the final programme of her life.
The 75-year-old cancer survivor will perform at the ‘Mira Rana Solo Musical Evening’ on Sunday, September 20, at Nepal Academy in Kamaladi.
Rana survived cancer but lost her husband, Uday Jung Rana, to the disease. Following her own battle with cancer and the loss of her husband, she established the Meera Rana Cancer Society to support cancer patients.
She said the musical evening is being organised as the final programme of her life to raise funds for the society and help people suffering from cancer.
Around two dozen songs sung or composed by Rana will be performed by various singers in their own styles.
Singers including Shambhujeet Baskota, Ram Bhakta Jojiju, Kapil Lohani, Krishnagopal Shrestha, Yogendra Upadhyaya, Tshering Bhutia, cancer survivors Tara Thapa and Sangeeta Thapa Shakya, Nisha Deshar, Rupi Singh, Mandavi Tripathi, Sabina Karki, Itu Jojiju, Shital Thapa and Yunisha Deshar will give their voice to her songs.
Rana herself will also perform some of her songs, while Manohar Sunam will serve as the music conductor.
The programme will feature songs Rana sang with Swar Samrat Narayan Gopal, including ‘Timi Deu Ya Nadeu’, ‘Mero Jowan Laijau’, ‘Aankhaima Kasai Ko Tasbir Basechha’ and ‘Bainiko Daya Chha Bhane’.
Songs she sang with Shambhujeet Baskota, including ‘Nachdeu Maichyang’ and ‘Sindhupalchok Jilama’, will also be performed.
Likewise, ‘Madal Ghanaghan Ghankau Ki’ and ‘Lek Phulyo Laligurans’, which she sang with Kumar Basnet, are also on the programme.
Other solo songs by Rana to be presented include ‘Makhamali Cholo Chahindaina’, ‘Mat Chadheko Sanjh’, ‘Nashalu Raat’, ‘Mero Pauma Aaja’, ‘Samda Sada Shiva’, ‘Birsera Maile Feri’, ‘Aajsamma Jasari Bachera Aayen’ and ‘Mero Phullalai Basanta Bhayo’.
