SATV 16 August 2025, Kathmandu: A temporary Bailey bridge is being constructed at Rasuwagadhi, a key northern border point between Nepal and China, to replace the Miteri bridge, which was destroyed by a devastating flood in the Lhende River on July 8. The Chinese government has initiated the construction as a first step toward restoring movement and trade between the two countries.  According to Rup Narayan Poudel, engineer of the Galchhi–Trishuli–Mailung–Syaphrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road project, the Bailey bridge is being built two metres east of the original site to safeguard the historical and archaeological significance of the Rasuwagadhi fort. This adjustment would be a preparatory measure for the construction of a permanent bridge in the future.

Ground and road levelling on the Chinese side has already been completed, while site preparation has also been finalised on the Nepali side.

Arjun Poudel, Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, stated that the bailey bridge is expected to be completed by September 15, providing much-needed relief for local residents, traders, and cross-border travellers. Meanwhile, repair and reconstruction work is also underway along the Syaphrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road, which suffered significant damage during the Bhotekoshi River floods on June 28. The flood disrupted the roadway at 18 different points, including areas such as Ghattekhola, Tatopani, Kalyangkulung, and Lingling.

Engineer Poudel confirmed that reconstruction has already been completed at two sites in Timure, while repair efforts are ongoing in Tatopani. He added that the goal is to restore two-way traffic along the route as quickly as possible.
