SATV July 24, Kathmandu: Nepal’s Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, will depart for China on Thursday, July 25, to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), which will be held in Shanghai from July 26 to 28. Following the conclusion of the conference, Minister Gurung is scheduled to return to Nepal on July 30.
The Ministerial Meeting of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference has drawn global attention, with minister-level officials from around 200 countries expected to attend.
Since its inception in 2018, this conference has become a highly influential global event in the field of artificial intelligence. As AI technology rapidly evolves, it plays an increasingly vital role in driving economic and social transformation and improving people's livelihoods. However, it also brings global challenges such as data security, ethical norms, and technological divides.
Against this backdrop, the theme of this year’s ministerial meeting is “Intelligence for All: Building a Shared Future”. The conference aims to provide a platform for international exchange and cooperation, exploring major issues such as global AI governance frameworks, technological innovation and applications, and international collaboration — all to promote the healthy development of AI and ensure it better serves humanity.
As the head of Nepal’s communications and information technology sector, Minister Gurung’s participation will offer an opportunity for in-depth exchanges with peers from around the world. He will share Nepal’s experiences and needs in AI development, gain insights into global trends, and seek more opportunities for cooperation to advance Nepal’s progress in this vital field.
