Rasuwa

SATV 10 July, Kathmandu: Eight of the nine people who died in Tuesday’s devastating flood in Rasuwa have been brought to Kathmandu.

According to Nepal Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire, all the bodies have been kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. Except for one, none of the bodies have been identified so far.

The one identified body has already been handed over to the family and cremated on Wednesday. The body of Assistant Sub-Inspector Lal Bahadur Shrestha, who went missing in the flood, was found along the banks of the Trishuli River near Chitwan’s 15 Kilo and was cremated yesterday after being handed over to his family.

Nineteen people are still missing in the aftermath of the flood. Police said it remains to be confirmed whether the body recently recovered belongs to someone on the missing list.

Only five of the recovered remains are in a condition that allows for possible identification. The rest consist of only human body parts, and DNA testing will be required to confirm their identities.

Among the missing are two police personnel, six Chinese nationals, and 11 Nepali nationals.

The flood washed away the Nepal–China Friendship Bridge, 24 containers, six trucks, and 35 electric vehicles. The road from Dhunche to Timure has been blocked, and significant damage was reported at the Rasuwa Customs Yard and the Rasuwa Gadhi Hydropower dam.

Bagmati Province Police Office spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh Thapa said search operations are underway in riverbanks across various districts.

Efforts are also ongoing to rescue stranded individuals in different areas of Rasuwa.
