Bernard Hill dies, actor played Captain Edward Smith and King Théoden         Bernard Hill dies at 79 

Bernard Hill has passed away.

The star, Bernard Hill, who played Captain Edward Smith in Titanic and King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy died at the age of 79.

As confirmed to the BBC by his agent, the British asset to the industry had his last breaths besides his fiancée Alison and his son Gabriel and died early May 5.

The cause of death hasn't been revealed.

Hill’s acting career spanned more than five decades, starting in the late ‘70s.

The actor was originally from Manchester, England, debuted on-screen in his native U.K., appearing mostly on British TV shows such as Crown Court.

He got more roles in the '80s and '90s in movies such as Gandhi and The Ghost and the Darkness, which also stars Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas, prior to getting casted in with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in James Cameron's Oscar-winning film Titanic, released in 1997.

Hill also starred as Philos alongside Dwyane Johnson in 2002’s The Scorpion King, and also starred in The Lords of the Rings franchise as King Théoden.

The latest work from Hill’s career was him starring in season two of the British police drama series The Responder, which had the same premiere date as of his death, May 5.
