The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Army on Monday rescued more than 390 tourists, including 13 from Bangladesh, from Lachen and Lachung towns in Sikkim which has been ravaged by flash flood in the Teesta river.
The death toll in Sikkim’s flash flood reached 34, officials in the state said on Monday, while the administration in adjoining West Bengal said 40 bodies have been fished out from the downstream of the Teesta river.
Officials, however, said that the figures reported by the two states will have some duplication.
According to reports, 10 Army jawans are among the flood victims and the search is on for 105 persons who are still missing.
