On Asoj 19th, one year before today, an unpleasant incident happened in 2079. Devendra Gautam, a respectable senior Nepali journalist who has been dedicated to the field of journalism in Nepal for centuries and has been wielding a strong pen giving his strong voice in many writings, passed away at the age of 77.
Devendra Gautam Journalism Award-2080 was organized yesterday in Bhaktapur on the occasion of Gautam's first memorial day.
Senior literary journalist Rochak Ghimire was honored with the 2080 Devendra Gautam Journalism Award in recognition of his continuous support to Current Publication for five decades in the editing of dozens of magazines and books including Nepalpost, Current, Rasayan, and his dedicated contribution to the improvement of Nepali literary journalism. A cash honorarium of Rs. One lakh was also provided.
On the occasion of the first death anniversary of late Devendra Gautam, Mr. Gunaraj Kafle Shandilya was awarded a certificate by Current Publication. For four decades, he continued in New Current and Nepal Post, "Kahu Wastad is rightly speaking!" Expressing gratitude for the support provided through the column, awarding Rs. A cash prize of 50,000 has also been awarded.
Making this special day even more special with a dedication and book release ceremony, three books titled "In Memory of Devendra Gautam Smriti" along with its Chinese version and "Investigation within Research" were released. It is requested to include this book in the journalism curriculum of Nepal as the research within the book research includes the reality of Nepali historical journalism.
