Bangladesh Hindu Law Reform Council has protested Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen’s statement, describing it as an attempt to cover up recent attacks on the Hindu community.
The speakers at the meeting said that the marginalized Hindu community of the country were hurt by the foreign minister’s comments.
Political compromise with the fundamentalist forces is endangering not only the Hindus but also the country and its people who are against the spirit of the Liberation War and the ideology of Bangabandhu, they said.
The council also declared a symbolic procession in Dhaka in protest against religious fanaticism on November 4, the day when the Hindus will observe Kali Puja.

They issued a statement on Sunday following a central committee meeting of the council the previous night. Speakers at the meeting said the problem cannot be solved by denying the truth or hiding the facts.
The foreign minister recently in an official statement said that there were only sporadic incidents of violence in the country, downplaying the seriousness of the issue.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on October 28 said that it was unfortunate that some over enthusiastic media and individuals were spreading cooked-up stories of deaths and rapes after the attacks on religious minorities primarily to embarrass the Sheikh Hasina government, according to UNB.

"The government is committed to religious harmony," he said, adding that all the perpetrators had been arrested and are now in police custody while the houses that were burnt have been rebuilt and everyone got compensation.

The council condemned the attacks on the Hindu community and declared to continue their protest by joining all non-communal sects of society.
They also expressed concern over reports of attacks on the Muslim community in India’s Tripura in response to the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
The speakers emphasized women's empowerment and establishment of women's rights in the battle against communalism.
Council President Dr Moyna Talukdar served as chair while Pulack Ghatak, general secretary, conducted the meeting.
Earlier, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad called for a boycott of the diwali festivities during the Kali Puja on November 4 to protest against the attacks on Hindu temples, Puja venues and houses across the country based on a false allegation of the Holy Quran being desecrated in Comilla.
BPUP General Secretary Nirmal Kumar Chattarjee at a press conference on October 22 said that they would hold the Puja rituals but would refrain from celebrating Dipaboli (popularly known as Diwali) festivities.
