SATV,, Kathmandu, Ashoj 26 - Manchester City defeated Liverpool in their first match since being found guilty of breaching the English Premier League’s financial rules.

City secured an emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield last night.

Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored for City.

The convincing victory helped City establish a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. However, the club continues to face uncertainty over potential sanctions, including expulsion from the Premier League, relegation or a record points deduction, following the financial-rule verdict. Manchester City has appealed the decision. 

Liverpool supporters expressed their anger before and during the match, directing chants and criticism at City over the club’s financial controversy.

Liverpool were reduced to 10 players in the 62nd minute when Ryan Gravenberch was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Just three minutes later, Haaland scored to give City the lead. Another three minutes later, in the 68th minute, Doku doubled City's advantage with a superb finish.

In the 78th minute, Cherki scored City’s third goal to make it 3-0. With no further goals scored, City comfortably secured all three points. 

In other matches played last night, Crystal Palace defeated Nottingham Forest 3-1, while Hull City and Everton played out a 2-2 draw to share the points.
