SATV, Kathmandu, October 3: Janakpur Bolts have signed former England international all-rounder and two-time World Cup champion Moeen Ali for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League.
Ali is the fourth overseas player to join the Bolts for this season.
Earlier, Janakpur Bolts signed Harmit Singh as captain, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and Pakistan batter Iftikhar Ahmed.
A left-handed batter and off-spin bowler, Moeen was one of the key players during a highly successful period for England cricket.
He was part of the England squad that won the 2019 ODI World Cup on home soil. He also served as England’s vice-captain when the team won the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Having represented England in all three formats, Moeen is among the few English players to have scored more than 3,000 runs and taken more than 200 wickets in Test cricket.
He has also captained England in T20 internationals.
Moeen retired from international cricket in 2024 but has remained active in major franchise leagues around the world. In the Indian Premier League, he played for Chennai Super Kings and was part of the team that won the title in 2021 and 2023.
Moeen said he was looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere surrounding Nepali cricket firsthand.
“I have seen the incredible passion of Nepali cricket fans and their dedication to traveling wherever they can to support their team. I am now excited to experience that amazing atmosphere for myself. I expect this to be an exciting season for the Bolts, and I am ready to give my 100 percent on the field for the team,” he said.
Janakpur Bolts Chief Executive Officer Niroj Khatiwada described Moeen’s signing as a gift to cricket fans in Madhesh.
“Moeen’s arrival is a testament to the growing global recognition of Nepali cricket and the Nepal Premier League. This signing is dedicated to our supporters and the people of Madhesh, who hold their team close to their hearts. This is our gift to you for your love and trust. This time, the roar of Janakpur will be even louder,” he said.
