UPDATE: 10 People Missing After Budhi Gandaki Flood; More Than a Dozen Bridges Swept Away

SATV, Kathmandu, October 11- At least 10 people have gone missing in Gorkha district following the massive flood that struck the Budhi Gandaki River early Sunday morning.

The flood is estimated to have swept away more than a dozen bridges, including two motorable bridges, four suspension bridges and several Bailey bridges.

Among the damaged structures are bridges connecting Arughat with Tripurasundari Rural Municipality in Dhading district, as well as bridges linking Soti and Manbu in Arughat. The flood also swept away a Bailey bridge connecting Wards No. 1 and 3 of Dharche Rural Municipality.

Other bridges washed away include the suspension bridge connecting Machhikhola and Kerauja, the bridge linking Thado Bhiryang and Jagat in Chumanubri Rural Municipality, and the suspension bridge connecting Ghattikhola and Philim in Sirdibas.

The flood also swept away approximately 35 houses in the Paiyun and Bagar areas of Ward No. 3 of Chumanubri Rural Municipality.

Several other settlements, including Jagat, Salleri, Dobhan and Ghattikhola, have also suffered damage. Reports of houses and sheds being swept away have also emerged from Arughat.

The full extent of the damage remains unclear as authorities continue to gather information from the affected areas.

The situation remains serious, with reports of missing people, widespread infrastructure damage and destruction of homes following the sudden rise in the river's water level.
