SATV, Kathmandu, July. 28 - Victims of loan shark staged a protest outside the main entrance of the Janakpur High Court on Monday, demanding stringent legal action against those involved in exploitative lending practices.

Carrying placards bearing various demands, the protesters said they had been struggling for years to obtain justice. They alleged that individuals involved in loan shark had continued to evade legal action due to political and administrative protection.

The demonstrators urged the government and the judiciary to ensure swift justice for victims, bring the accused to justice without delay, and expedite hearings on cases related to loan shark.

Claiming that many families had lost their homes and land as a result of loan shark, the protesters said victims had been financially devastated, while some had even been driven to take their own lives.

They insisted that those responsible for such crimes should not be granted impunity under any circumstances.

The protesters also called on the concerned authorities to ensure the return of properties lost due to usury and impose strict punishment on those found guilty. During the demonstration, participants chanted slogans outside the court premises for some time. Although the protest remained peaceful, security around the court was tightened to prevent any untoward incidents.

The protesters warned that they would intensify their movement if they failed to receive justice.
