SATV, Kathmandu, December 29 – In a landmark announcement for the global mountaineering community, the Everest Alliance Nepal (EAN) has unveiled details for the second Everest Summiteers Summit, poised to be the largest gathering of its kind. Scheduled for 27 May 2026 in Kathmandu, the summit, themed “Himalayan Innovation for a Sustainable Future,” is expected to draw over 500 Everest summiteers from across the globe, alongside hundreds of other stakeholders.
The event, strategically timed to commemorate International Everest Day and the historic first ascent by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary, aims to elevate dialogue into action. To ensure truly inclusive and effective international collaboration, the organizers have confirmed that all keynote speeches, panel discussions, and policy dialogues will feature simultaneous translation into five major languages.
From Commemoration to Collective Action
Building on the resounding success of the inaugural 2025 summit, which was themed “Honoring the Legends, Inspiring the Future,” the 2026 edition seeks to translate its foundational momentum into concrete strategies. It is designed as a high-level global forum addressing the most pressing challenges facing the Himalayan region.
“The Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 is more than a celebratory reunion; it is a critical think-tank for the planet’s rooftop,” said a senior EAN representative. “By assembling over 500 individuals who have stood atop the world, we harness an unparalleled wealth of firsthand experience. Our multi-language initiative ensures every voice can contribute to crafting a sustainable and ethical future for mountaineering and the communities that support it.”
Core Agenda and High-Stakes Dialogue
The one-day summit will feature a dense program of keynote addresses, expert panels, and closed-door policy workshops. Central topics will include:
Climate Crisis & Conservation: Addressing accelerated glacial retreat and its impact on water security and expedition routes.
Safety & Ethics: Developing enhanced protocols for climber welfare, crowd management, and rescue operations on Everest and other high peaks.
Sustainable Tourism & Community Legacy: Promoting waste management innovations, economic equity for mountain workers, and community-centered tourism models.
Policy & Global Stewardship: Advocating for international policy reforms to strengthen Nepal’s leadership and preserve Everest as a shared global heritage.
A Uniquely Powerful Assembly
The attendance of several hundred Everest summiteers provides a unique authority to the proceedings. These individuals are not just attendees but primary witnesses to the changing conditions on the mountain. Their collective narratives and advocacy are expected to lend unprecedented weight to the summit’s conclusions and policy recommendations.
Open Invitation and Participation
EAN has formally opened registration for the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026. The organization extends a warm invitation not only to summiteers worldwide but also to government agencies, international mountaineering federations (like the UIAA and IMF), academic researchers, environmental NGOs, responsible tourism businesses, sponsors, and international media.
