SATV Kathmandu Sept 10: The Nepali Army has imposed a prohibitory orders and nationwide curfew in response to escalating unrest linked to the Gen Z-led protests.

In a statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations and Information on Wednesday, the Army said the prohibitory orders will remain in force until 5:00 PM today, after which a curfew will be imposed across the country from 6:00 AM on Thursday, Bhadra 26 (September 11). The Army added that further decisions will be taken depending on the evolving security situation.

The release expressed gratitude to citizens for their cooperation so far in maintaining law and order, while also expressing sorrow over the loss of life and property during the demonstrations.

Authorities warned that anarchic elements have infiltrated the protests, carrying out arson, looting, vandalism of public and private property, targeted violent attacks, and even attempted sexual assaults. "Any such criminal acts carried out under the name of protest will be treated as punishable offences, and strong action will be taken by security forces," the Army stated.

Essential vehicles, including ambulances, hearses, fire brigades, and those used by health workers and security personnel, will be allowed to operate during the curfew. The Army requested all citizens to coordinate with nearby security personnel for facilitation if necessary.

The Army also appealed to retired soldiers, civil servants, journalists, and the general public not to fall for misinformation and to rely only on official notices. Emphasizing unity, it called on all Nepalis to help protect national integrity, maintain social harmony, and support security forces in safeguarding citizens and carrying out humanitarian assistance.
