SATV 13 May, Kathmandu: British climber Jay Whiting who aims to complete 'Everest Triple Crown' this season today scaled Mt Nuptse, according to expedition organiser.

At least 10 climbers including Jay successfully scaled Mt Nuptse today at 2:30 pm becoming the season's first team to climb the 7,861-metre mountain, Iswari Paudel, Managing Director at Himalayan Guides Pvt. Ltd said, adding that the team being part of the HG Nuptse Expedition Spring 2025 scaled the mountain fixing ropes to the summit point.

Jay Whiting and Steven Douglas Graham from the United Kingdom, Dyalan Jean Marie Bouissou from France, Shamin Umesh Asaikar from India along with Dawa Tenji Sherpa, Chheten Dorje Sherpa, Temba Sherpa, Kaji Man Tamang, Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa and Karma Gyalzen Sherpa stood atop the mountain, according to Paudel.

Jay has a plan to complete the ultimate three-peak challenge – Everest (8,848.86m), Nuptse (7,861m) & Lhotse (8,516m) - in a single climb this season.

"Our clients are excited following today's success as Nuptse is regarded as one of the toughest technical mountains to climb to its summit," Paudel said. The climbing route on Nuptse runs along the near vertical north face above western cwm becoming one of the toughest climbing challenges in a 7000er.

Despite being the lowest of the three, Nuptse has recorded very few summits at all until this year.

According to Paudel, Jay will attempt to climb both Everest and Lhotse in a day or two to achieve the remarkable feat of 'Everest Triple Crown.

Earlier, Legendary British climber Kenton cool who is now at the base camp for his record 19th Everest ascent, became the first person to complete the 'Everest Triple Crown' in 2013 along with his longtime climbing partner Dorje Gylgen Sherpa from the Himalayan Guides.

According to Paudel, Dawa Tenji along with Chheten Dorje led the rope fixing task as the duo climbed Nuptse for the third time. At least 76 climbers including 21 females representing six different teams have obtained climbing permits for Mt Nuptse this spring season, a record at the Department of Tourism shows.

"Today's Nuptse ascent was made under favorable weather conditions and reflects months of preparation and teamwork and this achievement marks a significant milestone for all involved, especially the support team of experienced Sherpas who played a vital role in route fixing and logistical coordination," Paudel concluded.
