Saurya Airlines that took off to Pokhara from KTM for maintenance met with a crash taking 18 lives of technical staffs of Saurya.
SATV, Kathmandu, July 24: Staff and technical experts who were heading from Kathmandu to Pokhara, for the maintenance of Saurya Air's aircraft, Flight 9N-AME met with an accident this morning at 11, resulting in the death of 18 technical staffs aboard the aircraft. During the takeoff sequence, the aircraft skidded on the eastern side of the runway at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Senior Police Inspector Dambar Bika, overseeing airport security, informed that the bodies of the 18 passengers, scattered inside the aircraft, have been collected. The bodies have been prepared to transfer to Maharajgunj based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. According to Inspector Bika, a member of the flight crew has been rescued alive.
Similarly, Captain Manish Shakya, who was on the aircraft, has been rescued and admitted to KMC Hospital in Kathmandu, according to spokesperson SSP Dinesh Raj Mainali of the Ranipokhari Metropolitan Police Office.
The plane crashed shortly after taking off from the runway, at around 11:00 AM today. The plane was disbalanced during its take off and one of its wings touched the ground while attempting to land it. The aircraft experienced a blast thenafter according to the sources.
Currently, internal flights at the airport have been affected.
