Gandaki, June 6th. The first historic international flight landed at Pokhara Airport, Nepal's second international airport, on June 6. On the initiative of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Sichuan Airlines' Narrowbody A319 aircraft with a capacity of 150 passengers made its first landing at 9:06 am.
A plane carrying participants and guests has landed from Chengdu, China for the China-Nepal Friendly Dragon Boat Race. An airline from China arrived at Pokhara International Airport from Chengdu carrying 130 passengers including the Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.
The plane was carrying players participating in the Nepal China Dragon Boat Race Festival, which is scheduled to be held on June 8 and 9 at Fewa Lake in Pokhara. 7 Member of Parliament including Speaker Timilsina, Chief Private Secretary of the Speaker Govind Akela Paudel and Deputy Secretary Ramhari Thapa went on a visit to China on June 10.
A special program was also organized to welcome the aircraft that landed at the Pokhara International Airport. Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Timalsina, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Nepal, His Excellency Chen Song, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Council, Dhannajay Regmi, Pokhara Metropolis attended the event. Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya, Chairman of Pokhara Tourism Council Pom Narayan Shrestha and other officials were present.
The airport which offficialy was inaugurated at New Year 2023 was not able to conduct any international flights due to its unavailability. This aircraft will stay at Pokhara airport for about two hours and return to China via Kathmandu at 11 am.

An agreement was signed between the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority and Sichuan Airlines for today's chartered flights of China's Sichuan Airlines on June 16. Respective airlines got permission for chartered flights from Chengdu, China to Pokhara International Airport.
The festival will be held on Asar 8 and 9 (June 23-24, 2023) at Fewa Lake in Pokhara. The festival has been organized by Nepal Tourism Board, Chinese Embassy in Nepal and Pokhara Metropolitan City. Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) and Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) have also supported the festival, which is co-organized by Pokhara Tourism Council and China Overseas Association.
