Biratnagar recently experienced two days holidays from May 18 to May 19 in all the public and institutional schools run by the Municipal Corporation in Biratnagar due to excessive increased heat of the atmosphere.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, since there is a possibility of hot air called ''Loo'' in the Terai region for a few more days. So,it has been decided to provide leave from May 21 to May 23 by adding 3 more days to the holidays. The leave will be deducted from future winter or annual leave accordingly.
The Municipal Education Committee has taken this decision due to the fact that due to excessive heat, not only difficulties in the teaching and learning activities of the school are likely to be adversely affected, but also the health of the students.
After the exposure to excessive increased temperature, public schools in Sarlahi have also been given four days of school holidays until June 24. Education, Development and Coordination Unit Sarlahi has decided to give leave. The heat that starts early in the morning reaches up to 44 degrees by midday, and the life of the people has also been affected.
As DHM suggested hot air(Loo), may cause fatigue, weakness, excessive thirst, heat pain, leg cramps, dizziness, fainting, muscle pain, vomiting, etc. So staying indoors in a cool place, drinking more water, etc. measures have been requested as protection to general public.
The temperature has gradually been increasing from past few days in different parts of nation, mainly Terai and officials of DHM show the possibility that the uprising temperature may hit not just Terai region but also Kathmandu valley and hilly areas.
