Kathmandu, 20th April: Confucius Institute conducted an opening ceremony on the occasion of International Chinese Language Day 2023 in collaboration with Kathmandu Center for Research and Education, on 20th April in Tribhuwan University. The theme of this year's International Chinese Language Day is "Chinese: Expanding Dialogue Among Civilizations".
The UN celebrates the Chinese Language Day as a means to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity in the organisation which has been one of the six official languages of UN since 1946.

His Excellency, Chen Song, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal also provided his respectful presence in the program. He presented "President Xi Jinping pointed out that learning each other's language and understanding each other's history and culture will help increase mutual understanding between the people of the two countries and contribute to building a community of human destiny." in his speech.
"At present, more than ten thousand students are enrolled in Confucius Institute and Confucius Classroom in Nepal and more than one hundred Nepali students go to China every year on Chinese government scholarship for further studies", added Mr. Song.
Ambassador Song informed that Chinese language is included in the curriculum of many Nepalese primary and secondary schools and sixty volunteer Chinese language teachers will be sent to different parts of Nepal to help teach Chinese language.
Dr. Gopal Thakur , Chairman of Nepal Language Institute highlights on ideology of love and tolerance of Confucianism. He states " now Chinese language is one of the languages of employment among the Nepalese" addressing the Confucius Institute at TU to be second in Nepal officially.
Representing the Language Institute, Mr. Thakur further adds, " We are making our efforts for documentation of languages, use language in different domains along with mother tounge- based multilingual education, media as well as to use them as official languages at local, provincial and federal levels of the state in the Republic".

The program was joined by Dr. Balmukunda Regmi, the Nepalese director of Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University and Prof. Dr. Sun Zhanxue, President of East China University of Technology through a video speech.
Mr. Regmi focused on teaching learning process of Chinese language among Nepalese and Nepalese language among Chinese.
Wang Gang, Vice-President of Qinghai Minzu University, Mr. Gang also participated and gave a speech congratulating the success of the programme.

The day was celebrated with interesting collaboration of Chinese and Nepalese song dance performances.

Also, a group of Durbar High School students sung a Chinese song to add a spark and respect regarding Chinese language on the program.
