SATV, Kathmandu, Jun. 12 - A total of six Nepali films were released in the month of Jeth.

Some of the films that hit theatres are still running, while others have already exited cinemas.

Few films released since the beginning of the year have been performing well at the box office.

At times, there is intense competition among Nepali film releases, while at other times there is a shortage of releases.

Only two Nepali films are preparing for release in the upcoming month of Asar.

‘I Am Jeet Bahadur’ and ‘Bhag Daud’ are sent to release during Asar.

In this regard, while there was a flood of film releases in Baisakh and Jeth, the month of Asar appears relatively quiet.

I Am Jit Bahadur, scheduled for release on June 19, has been produced by comedian Jitu Nepal.

The film portrays the struggles, challenges, and emotional journey of a young man who comes to the city with dreams from his village and strives to become an artist.

Directed by Indian Bengali filmmaker Subhendu Ghosh, the artistes including Jitu Nepal, Barsha Raut, Priyanka Karki, Sandeep Chhetri, Deshbhakta Khanal, among others, have done the film.

‘Bhag Daud,’ written and directed by Himal Upreti and set for release on July 10, features performances by Anisha Shrestha, Ghanshyam Joshi, Sharda Rai, Bishal Pokharel, and Laxmi Giri, among others.

The film focuses on the moral crises that arise from greed, deceit, manipulation, and fraud in human life. It also attempts to portray ancient civilization, Newari art and culture, and the traditional coexistence among different communities.

The scarcity of film releases in Asar can also be attributed to the monsoon season.

Moreover, with the paddy planting season underway and the World Cup season approaching, it is estimated that many producers have postponed their film releases.

Film producer and distributor Kedar Parajuli said that film releases have declined because the rainy season coincides with the time when farmers are busy planting rice.

“Earlier, many films used to be released even in Asar, but now the number has decreased. This time, many producers were hesitant to release their films because of the FIFA World Cup. However, there has been no decline in the release of Hindi films,” he said.

According to Parajuli, in addition to the monsoon and agricultural activities, the FIFA World Cup also affects Nepal’s film market. Since films involve significant investment, producers are unwilling to take risks during this period, he added.
