SATV, Kathmandu, Mar. 16 - Arda Guler scored from around 70 yards out and Fede Valverde capped an excellent week with another fine strike as Real Madrid thrashed Elche 4-1 on Saturday in La Liga.

Los Blancos, second, cut the gap on Barcelona at the top of La Liga to a point.

Atletico Madrid, third, scraped a 1-0 win over Getafe, with the visitors reduced to 10 men when Abdel Abqar was sent off for touching Alexander Sorloth in a sensitive area.

Uruguayan midfielder Valverde, who scored a sensational hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek, whipped the ball into the top corner before half-time after Antonio Rudiger blasted the hosts ahead.

Dean Huijsen headed home the third for Alvaro Arbeloa's side, who visit Man City on Tuesday aiming to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

The goal of the night, though, was scored by Turkish playmaker Guler late on, who spotted Elche goalkeeper Matias Dituro off his line and lobbed home from near the centre circle.

"Everyone had their hands on their head... it's worth buying a ticket to see that goal," added Arbeloa.

Arbeloa was able to rest several of the players that started after the break, including Vinicius Junior and Valverde, bringing on a host of youngsters to keep legs fresh.

Madrid are still without a host of injured stars including Jude Bellingham, while French striker Kylian Mbappe could return from a knee sprain next week.

Elche, 17th, slumped to an 11th consecutive league game without a victory and could finish the weekend in the relegation zone.

Nahuel Molina's thunderbolt from distance helped Atletico cut the gap to the top two, but the bizarre incident early in the second half involving Getafe defender Abqar was the biggest talking point.

The Moroccan, who insisted he did not mean to touch the Atletico striker's crotch, appeared to pinch the Norwegian, who threw him to the floor angrily.

Dowman makes history

Max Dowman, 16, propelled Arsenal closer to the title by becoming the Premier League's youngest ever goalscorer in a dramatic 2-0 win against Everton on Saturday as Manchester City stumbled in a 1-1 draw at West Ham.

Mikel Arteta's men are edging towards a first league title in 22 years as their advantage over City, who have a game in hand, now stands at nine points.

Arsenal struggled to break down obdurate Everton until the teenage substitute turned the game in the final moments.

Viktor Gyokeres finally found a way through in the 89th minute, with a helping hand from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford who flapped at Dowman's cross.

There was still time for Dowman to run the length of the pitch and slot into an empty net with Pickford nowhere to be seen after coming up for an Everton corner in stoppage time.

Aged just 16 and 73 days, Dowman is now the youngest scorer in the history of the Premier League and in Arsenal's history.

City's season is in danger of coming off the rails as West Ham clung on for a point that lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time in three months.

Pep Guardiola's men were thrashed 3-0 by Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in midweek and have dropped four points to sides battling relegation in their last two Premier League outings. Bernardo Silva's attempted cross floated in at the far post to give City the lead at the London Stadium.

But the advantage lasted less than four minutes before Konstantinos Mavropanos headed in from a corner.

City dominated the second half but failed to find a way through as Erling Haaland's barren spell in front of goal goes on.

A point for West Ham also has huge ramifications at the bottom of the table.

Nottingham Forest drop into the bottom three with Tottenham ahead of the Hammers now only on goal difference.

Fifth-placed Chelsea were beaten by Anthony Gordon's goal at Stamford Bridge to round off a painful week.

Thrashed 5-2 at Paris Saint-Germain in the last-16 first leg, Liam Rosenior's side were breached in the 18th minute Gordon converted from Joe Willock's pass.

A rare win at Stamford Bridge propels Newcastle up to ninth and within six points of the top five.

Brighton beat Sunderland 1-0 to climb into the top half thanks to Yankuba Minteh's strike, while Burnley held Bournemouth 0-0.Inter's title bid hit

Inter Milan suffered another wobble in their bid to reclaim the Serie A title after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Atalanta, who bounced back from Champions League humiliation against Bayern Munich.

Nikola Krstovic earned a point for Atalanta by scoring in the 82nd minute at the San Siro, cancelling out Pio Esposito's angled drive after 26 minutes for the hosts who had looked to be extending their league lead to 10 points.

Reigning champions Napoli trail Inter by nine points in third place after coming from behind to beat Lecce 2-1 in Naples where Scott McTominay made his return from injury.

Rasmus Hojlund and Matteo Politano's goals overturned Jamil Siebert's surprise early opener for Lecce as Napoli consolidated their top-four position, eight points above Roma and Como.(AFP)
