Paddy planted in 45% of cultivable land nationwide

SATV 08 July, Kathmandu: Paddy plantation has been done in around 45 per cent of the total paddy cultivated fields so far.

According to the Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agricultural and Livestock Development, paddy plantation has been completed in around 45.03 per cent of the total paddy fields by Monday (July 7, 2025). 

The paddy has been planted in 623,104 hectares of the total paddy fields of 1.38 million hectares across the country. 

The paddy plantation activities are going on in full swing across the country, as paddy plantation has been completed in additional 29 per cent of paddy fields over the last one week.

Plantation had been completed only in 15.6 per cent of the paddy fields by June 28.

Similarly, paddy plantation has been slightly increased– by 1.5 per cent – by July 7 this year compared with the same period last year. 

Paddy plantation had been completed in around 43.5 per cent of total paddy fields by July 7, 2024.

The highest paddy plantation has been completed in Sudurpashchim Province while the Karnali and Gandaki Province stand second and third respectively in paddy plantation.

According to the Department, paddy has been planted in 82.8 per cent (145,932 hectares) of the total paddy fields in Sudurpashchim Province by July 6. Paddy is grown in around 176,151 hectares in the Sudurpashchim Province.

Similarly, paddy has been planted in 71.6 per cent (29,299 hectares) in Karnali Province and 55.5 per cent (52,353 hectares) in Gandaki Province. The paddy is cultivated in 40,884 hectares in Karnali and 94,182 hectares in Gandaki Province.

The paddy plantation remains the lowest in Madhes Province. The paddy plantation has been completed only in 25.08 per cent (93,468 hectares) of the total paddy cultivation area of 372,645 hectares of land by Monday.

Likewise, 52.1 per cent (157,857 hectares) paddy plantation has been completed in Lumbini Province so far and 51.9 per cent (62,560 hectares) in Bagmati Province.

The paddy is cultivated in 302,939 hectares in Lumbini Province and 120,545 hectares in Bagmati Province. 

The paddy plantation has been completed in around 29.5 per cent (81,635 hectares) of the paddy fields in Koshi Province. Paddy is cultivated in around 276,387 hectares in Koshi Province. 

Compared to the same period last year, rice planting has reduced in four provinces - Sudurpashchim, Karnali, Koshi and Madhes - as of July 7, while it has increased in Lumbini, Gandaki and Bagmati provinces.

As of July 7 last year, 86 per cent of paddy plantations had been completed in Sudurpaschim Province, 78 per cent in Karnali, 44.4 per cent in Lumbini, 49.7 per cent in Gandaki, 41 per cent in Bagmati, 25.5 per cent in Madhes and 34.4 per cent in Koshi Province.
