SATV 9 June, Kathmandu: Nepal fell just two runs short of a record-breaking victory against Scotland in a thrilling ICC World Cup League 2 match.
Chasing a daunting target of 324 runs, Nepal fought until the final ball but could not cross the finish line. They were bowled out for 321 runs on the last delivery of the 50th over at Forthill Cricket Ground in Dundee.
Nepal set a new national record with their highest-ever total in One Day International (ODI) cricket. Bhim Sharki led the charge with a top score of 73 runs.
Vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami turned the match in Nepal's favor with a blistering 105-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Dipendra contributed 56 runs, while Sompal hammered 67 off 44 balls, smashing three fours and four sixes. Despite their explosive stand, Nepal could not seal the win.
Earlier, Scotland elected to bat first after winning the toss and posted a formidable total of 323 runs for six wickets in 50 overs.
Captain Richie Berrington anchored the innings with a century, scoring 102 off 114 balls, including six fours and four sixes. Michael Leask delivered a game-changing unbeaten knock of 96 off just 62 balls.
For Nepal, Karan KC and Dipendra Singh Airee each picked up two wickets.
