SATV 9 May, Kathmandu: The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu has issued a public notice advising Chinese nationals in Nepal to avoid traveling to areas near the India-Nepal border, citing heightened regional tensions.
The advisory comes amid escalating strains between India and Pakistan. The embassy cautioned Chinese citizens against inadvertently crossing into Indian territory, warning of serious legal consequences for unauthorized entry.
"Although the border between Nepal and India remains open for citizens of both countries, third-country nationals, including Chinese citizens, are not permitted to travel across the border without a valid visa," the statement said.
Chinese tourists in Nepal have been urged not to blindly trust local guides, as some may unintentionally lead them across the border. The embassy further warned that unauthorized entry into India could result in imprisonment ranging from two to eight years, along with hefty fines. It also noted that securing bail in such cases is often difficult.
In light of the situation, the embassy reported increased security checks and joint patrols by both Nepali and Indian forces along the border. Indian authorities, it added, have intensified control and monitoring in sensitive areas.
The embassy strongly recommended that Chinese nationals planning to travel to India obtain an Indian visa in advance. It also advised against photographing Indian border checkpoints and vehicles, and cautioned travelers to avoid visiting restricted areas without prior permission.
