Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has praised the current government's decision to ban Israeli passports and arrivals.
In a post on X, the former president said he welcomes the decision much like the Maldivian citizens, and praised the government for its initiative.
Though not politically active, Maumoon continues to opine on matters of national and public importance. He is also a strong advocate against Israel's continued attacks on the Palestinian people.
Maldives government announced the decision to ban Israeli passports on Sunday following a cabinet meeting.
The Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihusan, while speaking at a President's Office press conference on the same day, said the state would move forward with amending the relevant laws to ensure a ban on Israeli arrivals.
The cabinet appointed a special subcommittee to oversee the efforts, which include;
- Ali Ihusan - Minister of Homeland Security
