19th parliamentary assembly completed 92 percent of workload

Statistics show that the 19th parliamentary assembly, which held its last sitting on Monday, completed 92.95 percent of its total workload.

As per statistics publicized by the Parliament Secretariate – the total workload of the 19th parliamentary assembly has been placed at 1,291, of which 1,200 were completed.

A total of 512 parliamentary sittings spanning 1,461 hours were held in addition to 3,784 committee meetings.

While 210 bills were submitted, 178 of them were passed. 92 resolutions were submitted of which work on 73 were completed. 152 motions submitted by the government, 104 motions submitted by the chair and 48 motions submitted by other lawmakers were reviewed. This is excluding 108 emergency motions that were reviewed.

153 reports concerning other matters were submitted. 384 questions were put forth from lawmakers. One privileged motion was submitted, however, it remained incomplete at the time of the last sitting.

Delivering the concluding remarks at Monday’s sitting, Speaker Mohamed Aslam remarked that the 19th parliamentary assembly carried out the most work to date since the parliament was incepted 92 years ago.

As such, he extended gratitude to all lawmakers, committee chairpersons and the parliament secretariate staff for all their hard work. He also extended gratitude to constituents of his North Hithadhoo constituency.
