A colourful Pandol has been mounted on canoes afloat in the Kalu Ganga in the Muwagama area of Ratnapura in view of historic Poson Poya.
It was created in conjunction with the “Sadaham Pooja” Poson Zone organized by the Ratnapura Muwagama Siri Visuddharama Dhamma School and the “Friend’s Life” youth organization, which is being organized for the 12th time, according to Chief Incumbent Ven. Panamure Pagnalankara Thera.
The Pandol, depicting the Seelama Jataka, is 25 feet wide and 30 feet in height and will be illuminated with LED bulbs. The Pandol has been erected in the Kalu Ganga, considered to be the largest river in the Ratnapura District. It can be observed near the Muwagama Bridge in close proximity to Ratnapura.
The Reach Me computer data supply centre, responsible for measuring the water level of the Kalu Ganga, and the water level measuring posts are located nearby. Even during periods of low flood conditions, the river tends to overflow in this area.
Siri Visuddharama Dhamma School and the Friends Life youth organization will be organizing the “Sadaham Puja” Poson event for the 12th time, with the Ratnapura Muwagama Siri Visuddharama Piriwena Temple serving as the central location, according to Rev. Panamure Pagnalankara Thera. He added that the zone will be held from June 2 to 9.
He also added that all aspects of this Poson event, including pandals, sermons, and dramas will revolve around the theme ‘End of Alcoholism’, which is the focus of this year’s event. This Poson Zone will feature four pandols, including one representing “Nalagiri Damanaya”, a Bhakthi Geetha show, Buddhist dramas, lanterns, sermons etc.
