Sripada pilgrimage season 2022-2023, which lasted six months since May 2022, will end on Wesak full moon Poya day tomorrow (05).
Chief Incumbent of Sripadasthana, Sanghanayake of the Sabaragamuwa Province and Chancellor of the Uva-Wellassa University, Ven. Bengamuwe Sri Dhammadinna Thera said the casket of sacred relics, the golden statue of the deity and the regalia would be taken in procession on Saturday afternoon (06) to Nallathanniya Sri Pada Dharma Centre, and from there by motorcade through Maussakele, Laxapana, Kitulgala and Avissawella to Galpottawala Sri Pada Rajamaha Vihara in Pelmadulla after performing the traditional customs.
Ven. Dhammadinna Thera said the casket of relics, the statue and the regalia would be placed in a shrine room in Galpotthawala Rajamaha Vihara till the Sri Pada pilgrimage season next year.
Another procession will proceed along the Norwood - Bagawanthalawa route and arrive at Galpothawala Sri Pada Rajamaha Vihara.
Army personnel from the Laxapana camp will carry the casket of relics, the statue and regalia in the main procession to Nallathanniya. (Gamini Bandara Ilangatilleka)
