Maldives National Party (MNP) has delayed the presentation of its presidential ticket to the party’s presidential candidate and leader Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim.
The ceremony was initially slated for the night of May 5th at Usfasgandu area. It has now been postponed indefinitely.
Speaking to Sun, MNP’s Spokesperson said the party is undertaking preparations for an eventful ceremony.
On this note, the Spokesperson said that the presidential candidate’s campaign will also be launched during the ceremony to present the presidential ticket.
“In addition to presenting the presidential ticket, the candidate’s campaign will also be officially launched during the ceremony. Further information regarding the campaign will be disclosed on that night,” the Spokesperson said.
Only Nazim had filed his candidacy for MNP’s presidential primary. As per the party’s constitution, no voting is required if there is only one candidate.
As political parties prepare for the presidential election slated for September 9th – candidates that have secured the presidential ticket from their respective parties are;
Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom – Opposition PPM-PNC coalition Jumhoory Party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih – MDP
Candidates who have announced their intention to contest independently include former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munawar and former Home Minister Umar Naseer.
