Citing cyber security risk and load to the server, the PMO issued the directive as several government agencies that have created new websites failed to transfer files, databases and other contents from the old website.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has issued a directive to remove the links and contents of the old websites from the new websites of government agencies.

The directive from the Prime Minister’s office comes as some government agencies have not transferred the data from the old site to the new one even after creating a new website.

The Prime Minister’s office has instructed the removal of the links and files among other data from the old sites of the government agencies citing additional risk to cyber security and load to the server.

According to Prakash Rayamajhi, the Prime Minister’s IT expert, the directive has been issued as several government agencies that have developed new websites failed to transfer files, databases and other contents from the old website.

“The practice of rerouting users to go to the old website for certain files and links, on the one hand, will load the data server, consume bandwidth, and on the other hand, there is a possibility that the security risk,” said Rayamajhi. “The directive has been issued as such data also puts a burden on the financial and technological aspects significantly.”

Various government agencies have developed new webpages in consultation with private sector companies providing technical services.

Rayamajhi said that since the webpages created in this way are not technically updated on time which increases the security risks.

“Some of them do not follow the technical and security standards properly, so the Prime Minister's Office is also preparing for the use of a single web template,” said Rayamajhi. “Once the template is developed, we will issue directives to all agencies to develop their webpages based on the template.”
