Maldives Immigration has released the Japanese individual seen begging on the streets of Male’ City.
After she was flagged by people, Maldives Police Services handed her over to Immigration after questioning on Thursday.
Police has stated that they have gained all necessary information they needed regarding the case.
When questioned by Sun, a media official from Immigration revealed that she has been released after clearing information relevant to the investigation. The official also said that while investigation was ongoing, there was no reason to keep her in their custody at the moment.
Additionally, the official revealed that action will be taken against her if any issues surface during the investigations.
“In the initial stage of our investigation we were able to identify her. She is married to a Maldivian. Taking action will be decided after investigations.”
The woman in question was seen begging all over Male’ at different times of the day. She gained a lot of attention after posts about her began circulating on social media.
These posts talked about some of the “tactics” she used in begging. Some said that the woman had told them her Maldivian husband had divorced her, and that she was living in dire condition due to this.
