SATV, Kathmandu, October. 16- The Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched missiles targeting Al-Maashiq Palace, the presidential palace in Aden, Yemen, on Thursday.
The Houthis reportedly fired five ballistic missiles. According to international media reports, five people were killed and 16 others injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, CCTV+ reported that the Houthi group claimed to have carried out repeated attacks on various targets in Saudi Arabia and those of the Saudi-led coalition.
The Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed one of the missiles launched by the Houthis. Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces said they continued military operations against Houthi targets on several fronts.
In a statement issued early Thursday, the Houthi group claimed that it had targeted a Saudi Typhoon fighter jet using a surface-to-air missile.
According to the group, the aircraft had taken off from Taif Air Base in Saudi Arabia and was targeted while flying over Yemen's Saada province. Saudi Arabia had not responded to the claim at the time of reporting.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Houthis said they had launched a large-scale attack using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones targeting oil refining and production facilities operated by Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, eastern Saudi Arabia, as well as King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and an oil refinery operated by the company.
In another statement issued on Wednesday evening, the Houthi group said it had launched an additional ballistic missile toward King Khalid International Airport and three ballistic missiles at Saudi-led coalition targets in southern Yemen.
Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, said on Wednesday that a Houthi ballistic missile fired toward Riyadh had been intercepted and destroyed.
According to a statement issued Wednesday by Saudi Arabia's General Directorate of Civil Defense, debris from the intercepted missile fell in Riyadh, injuring one person.
Meanwhile, Al-Masirah television, which is controlled by the Houthis, reported on Wednesday night that the Saudi-led coalition had carried out an airstrike on a residential building in the Al-Marawiah area of Yemen's Hodeidah province.
Early Thursday, Al-Masirah also reported that Saudi Arabia had launched attacks on Yemen's capital, Sanaa.
According to a Houthi statement issued on Wednesday evening, the Saudi-led coalition had conducted 42 air and missile strikes against areas under Houthi control over the preceding 24 hours.
The Houthi group also said Saudi attacks on islands in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait posed a direct threat to the security of maritime shipping routes in the region.
On the other hand, the Yemeni government forces said on Wednesday that they continued military operations on the eastern and southern fronts, targeting Houthi positions and fighters.
Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthi group seized the capital, Sanaa, and much of northern Yemen. In 2015, a Saudi-led coalition intervened militarily in support of the Yemeni government.
