SATV, Kathmandu, Oct.6- Police have rescued 42 Indian nationals, including women and children, who were left stranded at a brick kiln in Laxmipur of Gujara Municipality-5, Rautahat, and handed them over to India’s border security personnel for their return home.

The rescued workers comprised 12 men, 11 women, 10 boys and nine girls.

They had been brought to the Madina Brick Kiln through an Indian contractor to work there.

According to Basanta Gautam, information officer and deputy superintendent of police at the District Police Office, Rautahat, the workers were left stranded after Indian contractor Mohammad Nasir, who had taken INR 600,000 from the brick kiln operator four days ago for food and other provisions, suddenly became unreachable.

Brick kiln operator Mohammad Muzamil said the workers had been brought from Muradabad, Uttar Pradesh, along with their dependent family members, to work at the kiln until the end of the Nepali month of Ashadh.

Police were informed after the contractor unexpectedly disappeared, leaving the workers without adequate arrangements.

DSP Gautam said police are searching for the Indian contractor accused of bringing workers from India and abandoning them at the brick kiln.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
