SATV, Kathmandu — April 5, 2026 — The HSK Certificate Distribution and Chinese Cultural Program was successfully organized on April 2 at Khwopa College, Bhaktapur, recognizing students’ and teachers’ achievements in Chinese language and promoting Nepal–China educational and cultural exchange. The program brought together distinguished guests, representatives from the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, Bhaktapur Municipality officials, school leaders, teachers, and students, creating a meaningful platform for academic recognition and cultural cooperation.

The event was attended by Deputy Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality Ms. Rajani Joshi; Prof. Dr. Li Shuangcheng, Director of the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University; Mr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, Principal of Khwopa College; Mr. Laxmi Prasad Karmacharya, Principal of Khwopa Secondary School; Chinese language teacher Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar; and Chinese Bridge winner Mr. Sushant Lohala, along with Chinese and Nepali teachers and students.

Prof. Dr. Li Shuangcheng expressed his great pleasure and honor at participating in the program. He highlighted that the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, established in 2007 in cooperation with Hebei University of Economics and Business, has trained more than fifty thousand Nepali Chinese language learners over the past eighteen years. He praised Khwopa Secondary School and Khwopa College for their commitment to Chinese language education and emphasized the critical role of Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar, whose dedication has produced outstanding students, scholarship winners, and Chinese Bridge competition participants. He also acknowledged Sushant Lohala’s achievement in representing Nepal in China.

Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on his journey from student to teacher at Khwopa. He highlighted the key role of mentorship, continuous effort, and the close bond between teachers and students in achieving success. He reviewed the program’s achievements, including students winning competitions, receiving scholarships, teaching Chinese in multiple schools across Bhaktapur, Kathmandu, and Patan, and Khwopa’s establishment as the first HSK examination center in Bhaktapur.

Chinese Bridge winner Mr. Sushant Lohala shared his gratitude toward Mr. Pranaya Chitrakar and Khwopa Secondary School, stating that he would not have achieved success without their guidance. He reflected on the invaluable experience of traveling to China after winning first prize in the Chinese Bridge Competition and representing Nepal internationally.

The cultural performance session featured a vibrant mix of Nepali and Chinese traditions. Six different Chinese cultural skills were demonstrated through six distinct performances, making the event highly enriching. Students from Khwopa Secondary School and Khwopa College presented Chinese cultural music fusion, Chinese dance, paper cutting, calligraphy, tea culture demonstration, and Chinese song, showcasing their talent and deep understanding of Chinese culture.

The performances included a musical fusion of Mo Li Hua, Tarani Janani, and Resham Firiri; Chinese dance Moment by Khusi Niraula; paper-cutting demonstration Panda by Antara Shilpakar; Chinese calligraphy by Kafee Limbu; tea culture presentation by Acsha Lama and Sadhana Shrestha; and a Chinese song The Girl Across Looks Over by Sushant Lohala.

The HSK certificate distribution ceremony was a major highlight, where more than 30 students and teachers of Khwopa Secondary School and Khwopa College were awarded HSK Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 certificates, highlighting the inclusion of teachers who are also participating in Chinese language classes. Khusi Niraula was recognized for achieving a perfect score in HSK Level 2, Binod Shakharmi and Arjun Konda for outstanding marks in HSK Level 1, and Antara Shilpakar for outstanding marks in HSK Level 4. Binod Shakharmi, who was once a teacher of Pranaya Chitrakar and is now his student, represents a unique example of lifelong learning and academic continuity at Khwopa.

Certificates were also awarded to winners of the “Drawing for Peace” International Children’s Art Exhibition Online Collection Activity, with Antara Shilpakar securing first prize and Kafee Limbu second prize, further highlighting the artistic and cultural excellence of Khwopa students.

Deputy Mayor Rajani Joshi expressed her delight at the remarkable achievements of students and teachers in Chinese language and cultural activities. She praised their HSK results and cultural performances and encouraged students to continue making Bhaktapur proud by contributing to Nepal–China friendship.

She shared her experience visiting Xi Zang last year and expressed her happiness that Bhaktapur Municipality had renewed its sister-city relationship with Shan Nan Province. She hoped that similar cooperative relations would be established with more Chinese cities in the future. She also welcomed the planned Chinese Language Education and Cultural Center at Khwopa College, supported by the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University and Hebei University of Economics and Business. She further highlighted Khwopa’s establishment of the first HSK examination center in Bhaktapur, allowing students and nearby residents to take exams in their hometown.

The program concluded with a group photo session, marking a successful celebration of students’ and teachers’ achievements.
