SATV Kathmandu Sept 08: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) has urged the public not to use Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to access unregistered social media platforms in Nepal.
The ministry said that, in line with the government’s decision, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority has already directed mobile and internet service providers to restrict access to unregistered platforms. It warned that using VPNs to bypass these restrictions is unsafe, unauthorized, and carries security risks.
According to the ministry, two companies — Smart Idea Pvt. Ltd. (Hamro Patro) and Global Diary Pvt. Ltd. — have already been listed and activated as of September 7 (22 Bhadra).
In a statement issued on Sunday, the minstry also urged the public not to use unsafe and risky virtual private networks (VPNs) to access restricted social media platforms.
