Health Minister announces provision of up to Rs 200,000 to patients with eight complex diseases

SATV 9 July, Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel has said that those enrolled in the health insurance program will now receive double the treatment assistance than before.

Minister Paudel said that as per his previous commitment, patients with eight complex diseases will be able to receive an additional Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 200,000 in treatment facilities, in addition to the Rs. 100,000 currently being received.

Taking to the social media Minister Paudel said, "With the idea of providing relief to citizens who are suffering from serious illnesses and are unable to afford health care, we have made arrangements for 8 types of patients to receive treatment worth Rs. 200,000 through the health insurance program, as per our previous commitment, coming into effect from July 17."

According to Minister Paudel, patients with cancer, heart, kidney, head injury, spinal injury, sickle cell anemia, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's will now be able to access this facility.

Minister Paudel had announced an increase in the amount to provide relief to patients with eight complex diseases. Accordingly, the ministry has corresponded to the Health Insurance Board.

Executive Director of Health Insurance Board Dr Raghuraj Kafle said that the board meeting held on Tuesday night decided to provide Rs 200,000 for treatment expenses for eight critically ill patients. 

According to him, this decision will be implemented from July 17.
