SATV 13 May, Kathmandu: Passengers have been stranded after the bridge over the Girubari River at Chormara, Madhyabindu Municipality-6, Nawalpur, collapsed on the Narayangadh-Butwal road section.

The bridge collapsed on Saturday night, completely disrupting traffic. 

Chief of the District Police Office, Nawalpur, Superintendent of Police (SP) Yadav Dhakal, it is not possible to repair the damaged bridge and build a new one, resulting in a hassle for passengers. 

He said that vehicles will not be able to operate until the Road Department creates a diversion. 

According to him, small and light vehicles are taking a long route to cross the inner roads of Girubari, while large buses and freight vehicles have to stop in the middle.

According to Chief Police Inspector Janak Banjara of the District Traffic Police Office, the traffic jam will be even heavier as the vehicles that were stopped for the road expansion in Daunne till 5 AM were released after 5 AM.

Police said that the bridge is being broken due to overload. 

The bridge collapsed while carrying raw materials (18-wheeled trailer) bearing the registration number (Ma.Pra.03-001 Ka 3163) from Hongsi Cement Company, which was heading towards Birgunj, was crossing the bridge.
