SATV 3 May, Kathmandu: The last month, April, saw a record number of foreign tourists' arrival- over 116 thousand in Nepal. It is the first such highest foreign footfall in five years.

According to the statistics of the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 116,490 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal in April against 111,376 during the same period in 2024 and 98,773 in 2023.

The gradual rise of tourists' visit following the COVID-19 pandemic indicates a growing recovery in the tourism sector as in the pre-pandemic time and an increasing global interest in Nepal, the Board said in a recent press statement.

Among those coming Nepal last April, Indians constitute the highest number at 25,933 followed by 10,053 from the USA, 9,037 from China and 6,838 from the UK among others, stated the Board.

There has been a surge of 106.5 per cent in the number in external tourist' arrival compared to 2019, informed the Board.

Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Board, remarked the tourists' arrival last April is encouraging. "This spike is a testament to Nepal's enduring appeal and tourism culture," he maintained.

Nepal has welcomed altogether 415,048 tourists since January this year to April.

With the start of tourist season in March, Nepal witnessed a steady rise in the number of tourists with April recording their highest arrival in the last five years.   (RSS)
