Women’s Day Cup Hong Kong edge Nepal by 2 runs

SATV Mar.11, Kathmandu: Nepal conceded a second defeat at the Women’s Day Cup Twenty20 International Series after narrowly going down to Hong Kong by just two runs in Entebbe, Uganda on Monday.

Off three matches played so far, Nepali women managed to bag only win against host Uganda. Nepal-w has two points on the table. Nepal lost the first match against Namibia by six wicket and defeated Uganda by one-wicket to keep their final hopes alive at the series. 

However, the loss against Hong Kong has jeopardised Nepal’s chances. 

Hong Kong, othe other hand, secured its second consecutive win, bringing their total to four points from three matches on the table. After suffering a loss to Uganda by eight wickets in their opening game, Hong Kong defeated Namibia in their second match by four wickets.

Chasing a target of 101 runs set by Hong Kong at the Entebbe Cricket Oval, Nepal batted through all 20 overs but fell short, scoring only 98 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

For Nepal, Captain Indu Barma scored 32 runs, Puja Mahato contributed 19, Bindu Rawal added 14, Roma Thapa remained unbeaten with 13, and Sana Prabin scored 10 runs.

For Hong Kong, Mariko Hill claimed two wickets, while Siu Mei Wai and Chan Ka Ying each took one wicket.

Earlier, after losing the toss, Hong Kong was invited to bat first and they posted a total of 100 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. 

Natasha Miles led the scoring for Hong Kong with 35 runs, followed by Mariko Hill with 21 and Yasmin Daswani, who remained not out, with 11 runs.

For Nepal’s bowling, Captain Indu Barma and Ishwori Bista each picked up two wickets, while Puja Mahato and Rachana Kumari Chaudhary chipped in with one wicket a piece.
