SATV, Kathmandu| A prize distribution ceremony organized by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, in collaboration with the Nepal-China Education and Culture Association and the Nepalese Chinese Language Volunteer Teachers' Association,was successfully held on Tuesday in Kathmandu. The event marked a celebrationof 20 years of collaboration between the organizations and the growing popularity of the Chinese language in Nepal.
The program was graced by the presence of Nepal's Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Honorable Ms. Bidya Bhattarai, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, H.E. Chen Song, along with other distinguished personalities.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Chen Song highlighted that over 900 Chinese language teachers are actively teaching in Nepal, with an estimated 900,000 learners currently engaged in mastering the language.Expressing his delight, he stated, “I am warmly welcomed in Chinese at Nepal’s international airport, and I often find people attempting to communicate with me in Chinese across the country. This is a testament to our strong culturalties.”
Nepalese Government’s Gratitude
Minister Bhattarai expressed her happiness in being part of the event, recalling China's invaluable support in rebuilding Nepal’s education infrastructure following the 2015 earthquake. She acknowledged the efforts of Chinese volunteer teachers in introducing Chinese language and culture to Nepalese students and committed to further enhancing such initiatives.
Students and Teachers Share Experiences
Students learning Chinese praised the dedication and hard work of volunteer teachers, highlighting the artistic and fascinating nature of Chinese characters. Meanwhile, Chinese volunteer teachers described Nepal as their "second home," appreciating the warmth and hospitality of the Nepalese people and expressing their joy in contributing to Nepal’s educational development.
Recognition and Celebration
The event included the distribution of the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship 2024 and awards to winners of five major competitions.The celebrations also featured various cultural and entertainment activities,showcasing the cultural harmony between the two nations.
