SATV KATHMANDU Nov. 15: President Ramchandra Paudel, who arrived here on Monday, November 11 to attend the COP29 conference underway here, left for Doha of Qatar en route to home.     

Azerbaijan's Minister for Health Teymur Musayev bade him farewell today at Heydar Aliyev International Airport. He arrived Baku leading a high-level delegation to the conference at the invitation of his Azerbaijani's counterpart Ilham Aliyev.     

The President's entourage includes First Lady Sabita Paudel, along with key advisors, experts, and senior government officials.     

In his address to a high-level session on "World Leaders Climate Action Summit" held on Tuesday under the COP29, the President called on the global community to realize that the protection of the mountains is the protection of Earth. "Let's remember that the protection of the mountains is the protection of Earth," he said.     

"As the snow-covered White Mountains turn into black rocks, the world needs to recognize that the effects are not limited to the mountainous nations but also extend to the coastal ones. Therefore, it is high time we formulate and implement integrated and holistic adaptation strategies that link mountains to the sea," he apprised the session.

During his meeting with President of the Maldives, Mohamud Muizzu on Tuesday, the President said "Both the nations have been impacted by climate change, so I believe that we should strengthen our bilateral cooperation on this issue and cooperate in climate negotiations and make joint efforts for financial and technical cooperation for countries like ours."     

Nepal on Wednesday organized a special session on "Addressing Loss and Damage in Mountains," during the conference and the President addressed it.     

Similarly, Addressing the high level session organized by Kyrgyzstan in course of ongoing COP29 in Baku, Wednesday, President Paudel viewed the climate change sufferers are ensured justice, an integrated approach is essential.     

He also attended the group meeting held same day by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres with the Heads of State and Government of underdeveloped countries who gathered in Baku to take part in the COP29 conference. The President utilized the meeting to urge the UN Secretary-General to make the developed countries serious about the impact of climate change.     

During the meeting, President Paudel emphasized that the since countries like Nepal are not the reasons behind the climate change, the funds they get to tackle its impact should be provided as grants and not as debt. The United Nations should remind the developed countries that the problem of climate change, which is now affecting countries like Nepal, will come to affect them as well.     

He left Kathmandu for Doha on November 10.
