President: Youth entrusted with great responsibilities in national development

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states that young government employees are entrusted with great responsibilities in developing the nation, urging them to remain dedicated and committed to carrying out their responsibilities.

He made the appeal in his address at the ceremony to confer the National Award for Public Service to 148 public servants on Saturday.

In his address, President Solih attributed the development of the Maldives to the sacrifices made by long-serving government officials.

He praised their dedication and hard work, stating that their efforts have played a significant role in the progress and development of the country.

He urged younger government employees to draw inspiration from their dedication and commitment.

“Make public service the pleasure of the youth. Don’t come to the office just to work. You are responsible for crucial roles in developing this nation,” he said.

The president described public service as “a great patriotic duty.”

He acknowledged the efforts of young individuals in working towards fulfilling significant obligations for the country's growth, and urged all members of the government, particularly the nation's youth, to remain dedicated and committed in carrying out their responsibilities.

He also stressed the importance of honoring and recognizing the contributions of long-serving government employees, and commended their dedication and integrity.

The National Award for Public Service was introduced in 2021.

Since then, a total of 457 individuals have received the honor, including an additional 148 individuals who received the award on Saturday.

Among the award recipients were three individuals who have served the state for over 50 years.

Aminath Waheedha, the director of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)’s Blood Bank, was awarded for over 52 years of service.

Ahmed Rasheed, the former Chief Magistrate of Raa Atoll, was awarded for over 51 years of service.

And, Lieutenant (Retired) Ahmed Manik, a retired serviceman of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), was awarded for over 50 years of service.
